Visiting Africa

Today, we visited the beautiful African country of Kenya. We talked about the style of life and the normal day of a child of the Masai tribe. We discussed the currency, food, climate and location. We went for a hunt for african animals and created colourful jewelry necklaces from painted pasta. We tried some African dances and watched a traditional fairy tale.

Animal Week

This week centred around animals and the activites ranged from animal yoga to painting animals on rocks that we found at the river on tuesday! We also learnt about the different habitats that animals live in and played a game where each corner of the room represented a different habitat (sea, jungle, desert) and the children had to run to whichever corner the animal shouted out lives in. There was also lots of singing, dancing and acting!

So far from Animals Week

So far from Animals week, we have learnt the names of animals and where they live, played games like Chinese whispers to revise the animal vocabulary, made animal masks, drawn pictures of animals that we like and animals that we do not like as well as other things. On Thursday, we watched 64 Zoo Lane, an English programme which tells various stories involving animals as well as going out to feed the birds in the Square. It has been a very good week so far!

Tuesday

Today we spent the afternoon drawing with the chalks in the playground. In groups the kids drew different animals and their environments. It was fun as they love drawing and a good way to practice animal language!

We then played animal tag, chosing different animals, and their corresponding predators, for example fish and shark. It was a fun dynamic way of practicing animal vocabulary and the kids really enjoyed it.
