Cooperative Olympic Games

Working together

This week, we have been exploring Olympic Games and also paralympic games, cooperating together for the whole team to win and talking about different disabilities and how they are overcome by the paralympic athletes. We discussed different feelings one might feel during the competitions and preparaation. We created an Olympic torch, made flags of countries we are going to represent and made medals for the winners on our big day on Friday where we open the Olympic games, carrying the olympic flame.

Mini Olympics

Today we filled our day with lots of games in the morning which included under and over, Leap Frog, Opposite sides, Relay race, Crawling race etc. The children got very competitive and there was a few times I had to be referee, to make the final decision as to who was he winning team.

After lunch we played a mini Olympics Tournament incooperating different equipment to make it more entertaining and fun for the kids. For example instead of playing with a hockey stick we used a broomstick and they dribbled in between the cones.

We Are All Winners!

The day we had been waiting for finally came: Olympics Day!  As planned by our monitors, all of us converged at the playground next to the old university building. The bigger space allowed us to play three different games at a time. It was a warm and sunny day and in no time we were all sweating! After the games, everyone received an award (because we all did an excellent job! :D). It was a great way to close an exciting and action-filled week!

Olympic Week: sports

After practising the names of sports in English. We learnt about where they come from and how to pronounce the names of the countries. Some sports we already knew such as football coming from England but others where very knew such as ice skating from Finland

Getting Ready for the ¨Olympic Games¨

Choosing the games for our version of the summer olympics got everyone really excited. After preparing the materials and writing down the rules for Brilet, Capture the Flag and Foot Baseball, we joined our other classmates outdoors for a practice game of Brilet, one of our all-time favourites, and Ball and Wheels, an interesting game created by Alma´s class. We can´t wait for the big day!

Olympic Week: sports

After deciding which games we wanted to play in the lead up to our ´olympics´ on Friday we played two of them. we played dodge ball (the Basque way!) and a new game we called ball and tires. we enjoyed playing a sport that we all knew well and one that was new to most of us! It was great fun!
